Theresearchcomponentofcollegewritingandcompositioncoursesisoftenonlypracticedaspartofhighstakesassignments.Thispaperproposesacollaborativeapproachtohelpingstudentsdevelopfoundationalresearchskillsthatbuildsonthesuccessofthelowstakeswritingmovement.UsingElbow’s1997article“HighStakesandLowStakesinAssigningandRespondingtoWriting”asaframework,thelowstakesresearchmodelcentersaroundprovidingstudentsmultipleopportunitiestopracticeresearchskillsinamannerthatalleviateslibraryresearchanxietyandincreasesresearchquality.Keytothesuccessofthismodelisacollaborativerelationshipbetweentheclassroomfacultymemberandthelibrarian.
