BackgroundandPurpose:Totheauthors'knowledge,histopathologicchangesassociatedwithearlyH.pyloriinfectionandulcerationhavenotbeenestablished.WeexaminedpresenceofH.pyloriinfectioninanaceticacid-inducedgastriculcer(AAU)modelinMongoliangerbils.Methods:SixtyMongoliangerbilswereusedasanAAUmodel,andanother60gerbilswerestudiedasacontrol(non-AAU)group.AllanimalswereorallyadministeredH.pylori,thenwereevaluatedbyuseofhistologicandbacteriologicexaminations.brxmlns="http://pub2web.metastore.ingenta.coms/"/brResults:Helicobacterpyloriwerescatteredonthesurfacemucousgellayerandinthepyloricglandgastricwerepits;inflammationseenattheearlystageslaterextendedtothemucosaofthefundicglandarea.TheorganismswerepredominantlyobservedintheAAUmodel,butfindingswerecomparabletothoseincontrolsat1,3,7,14,28,or56days.Evaluationwithregardtoviablebacterialnumbersreflectedthehistologicaspects,thatthepyloricglandareahadmoreviablecountsthandidthefundicglandarea.Carbohydratecompositionofmucindifferedbetweenpyloricandfundicglandareas.ThesefindingsshedlightonL-fucoserelatedtotheH.pyloriadhesivefactorabundantinmucinofthepyloricglandarea.brxmlns="http://pub2web.metastore.ingenta.coms/"/brConclusions:FindingsforthisulcermodelofHelicobacterpyloriinfectionmakeitusefulforthestudyofonsetofinfectionandscreeningofanti-ulceragents.
