A9-y-old,colony-bred,femalevervetmonkey(Chlorocebussabaeus)presentedwitha6-yhistoryofopen-mouthbreathing,tachypnea,andsibilantwheezing.Thesesymptomsdidnotsignificantlyaffectheractivityorqualityoflife.Thoracicradiographsandresultsofbronchoalveolarlavagesupportedthediagnosisofasthma.Treatmentcomprisingintramuscularprednisolone(taperedover2mofromtwicedailytoeveryotherday),inhaledsalmeterol#8211;fluticasone(25#956;g#8211;250#956;gperactuationtwicedaily)bymask,andametereddoseinhalerwassuccessfulinrestoringanormalrespiratorypattern.Despitetheavailabilityofseveralprimatemodelsofhumanasthma,thiscaserepresentsthefirstreportofspontaneousasthmainaNHP.
