After School Anatomy Lesson

For the purpose of this learning, after school, we have bought bags of balloons, twist ties, rubber sheaths for how we aim to teach respiration, pressure curves, the anatomy of lungs. One by one they puff out measured gulps of air, laborious ounces of breaths stretching temporary lungs, pink imagined lobes growing full with unspoken whorls of verbs. While engaged in the midst of this August demo-play, we hear, all of a sudden, a pop then shh, then a round of laughs— and find on the floor, torn skin of a balloon, leaking secrets.
