Combination of Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome and Quick-SOFA: Is This a New Vital Model to Initiate or Escalate Therapy in Patients With Sepsis?

We have reviewed with great interest the recently published systematic review and meta-analysis by Serafim et?alsup1/sup in CHEST (March 2018), which compared the quick Sepsis-related Organ Failure Assessment (qSOFA) and systemic in?ammatory response syndrome (SIRS) criteria in patients outside the ICU. The authors performed a systematic review of?the literature and a meta-analysis to describe the performance of the qSOFA and compared it with the?SIRS criteria for the diagnosis of sepsis and its ability to predict hospital mortality.
