Ectopic Pregnancy in a Queen from a Cat Colony in ?ib?ne?ti, Ia?i County – a Case Report

This is a case of ectopic pregnancy found in a queen from a cat colony. Thecolony consisted of more than 50 cats, both adults and kittens, from which 28 (6 males and 22females) were sterilized in July 2011. This particular queen was nine year old and had ahistory of abdominal trauma (more than 5 years before), followed by several abortions andstillbirths.The queen was diagnosed as possibly pregnant by palpation and then underwentlaparatomy for ovariohysterectomy. Upon exploration, in the abdominal cavity, beside theuterus and normal viscera, two masses were found. The masses were hard on palpation, darkcolored and attached to the mesentery. Ovariohysterectomy was performed and the twomasses were surgically removed and then identified as mummified fetuses. The uterusappeared to have a scar (probably due to the abdominal trauma that occurred years before)and the ectopic pregnancy was diagnosed as secondary.This case underlines the necessity of a careful exploration of the abdominal cavityupon ovariohysterectomy.
