X/HEN Mrs. Wiles, who is an old friend of the Foundation and mine, suggested that I talk with your group today, I demurred. Not for the reason that I did not want to do so-for Mrs. Wiles is an old friend-but because I could not speak for 15 or 20 minutes entirely about the Foundation's library interests in Latin America. Mrs. Wiles was, then, kind enough to suggest I review with you the Foundation's total Latin American program, with special emphasis upon libraries. This was an agreeable compromise to me, and I hope will likewise prove to be to you.
