The Role of the Medical School Library in the Medical School Teaching Program

O NE of the most important current developments in medical education is the increasing use of the medical school library as an essential instrument in the medical school teaching program. This is an inevitable feature of the overwhelming mass of detailed material we are accumulating through research regarding health and disease. While the prime function of any scientific library is the accumulation and preservation of knowledge about ourselves and our environment, it is increasingly apparent that this vast information must be used if it is to have any significance at all in our culture.
