Regional Plans for Medical Library Service The Nebraska Plan for Medical Library Extension Service

WHEN the University of Nebraska College of Medicine Library was established in 1912, it was the intent of the University to build the strongest medical collection in this part of the United States. Succeeding administrations have continued to follow the original plan, so that today the collection is one of depth, particularly in periodical holdings. Research scientists, coming to the campus from areas of concentrated medical activities, are pleased to find the Nebraska collection to be comprehensive. Other medical literature collections in the area are limited in number of volumes and journal subscriptions and are designed primarily for basic teaching activities or hospital practice. With the exception of two medical school libraries (Creighton and Colorado), collections number less than 10,000 volumes, and periodical subscriptions in these libraries are likely to be in the neighborhood of 100.
