Only the further generosity of aircraft enthusiasts or major private or corporate sponsorship can now save the Vulcan to the Sky' project from eleventh hour failure. In 2007, following a £7m restoration, Vulcan XH558 took to the skies for the first time in 15 years. Last year, this Cold War bomber flew at air shows across the UK, delighting some 1.5 million spectators.
