The pivotal new war against Israel, flowering in May 2021, was an inevitable response to the Abraham Accords which changed the strategic balance in the Middle East. Turkey and Iran had no option but to take decisive action if they were to retain their influence. The war for them was therefore, by mid-May 2021, just beginning. As a result, the war must shape up as a decisive event - albeit one conducted obliquely, often as proxy war, and often including lulls in kinetic operations - which would, among other things, determine the future of Western influence in the Middle East.
