Way of the Warrior

Arriving at the DSG Donnington test track in January, press visitors were greeted by two Warrior armoured vehicles standing prominently against the horizon. Their presence could in no way go unmissed, and as the invitation to experience a ride on one of these magnificent platforms was offered, excitement, and in some cases apprehension, struck at the heart of those in the crowd.rnWarrior carries a complement of seven people: four in the back, two in the turret and a driver at the front. A Defence Support Group media guide asked who would like to ride up top, and as my hand lifted into the air, the driver took one look at me before proclaiming "Fool", as if there were a certain level of doom approaching.rnYet Warrior offered anything but, and this author is now most certainly privileged to have ridden in the turret of the "backbone of the British Army", as Major General Alan Macklin calls it.
