Much emphasis is placed on the new equipment entering service for the front line, and rightly so. However, keeping that equipment available and serviceable is equally important. The entry into service of the Deployable Machine Shop (DMS) is evidence of this.rnThe cost in terms of time out of action and back loading equipment from the forward operating areas is enormous. The further forward any repairs can be carried out, the more available the equipment is, and the cost for back loading equipment and bringing its replacement forward is less.
