For many years sophisticated systems integration on military land platforms has been the preserve of MBTs, IFVs and some recce vehicles. This was driven by the requirements of the capabilities and doctrine, and constrained by cost. An MBT cannot be competitive on the battlefield without an integrated FCS; a utility vehicle had no such requirements, with a radio with an intercom the only hardwired system on board for most, and not all.
