The march to modernity

In October 2012, as part of Director Land Equipment's Transformation Programme, the Individual Capability Group (ICG) of DE&S was reorganised and renamed Soldier System Programmes (SSP). SSP is led at 1-star level by Brigadier Mark Gaunt. The teams that formerly made up ICG - Dismounted Soldier Systems;Light Weapons, Photographic & Batteries;Personal Combat Equipment;and the Integrated Soldier System Executive (ISSE) - have been replaced by four domains, based on NATO boundaries: surveillance and target acquisition;command and battlespace management;lethality;and survivability. By creating a synchronised equipment programme plan and a single programme office, the aim is to enable project managers to concentrate on procurement, delivery and support.
