Yet another SAARC (South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation) summit stalled just a few days before scheduled to be held on the behest of India. The postponement is viewed as an ominous sign for the future of South Asian Association stepping into its third decade. SAARC had just been accorded observer status in the UN yet the organisation seems to be hostage of any one member country's unwillingness to attend on any pretext that could be advanced as strong logic. The 13th SAARC summit was to be held in Dhaka by the end of January but that was delayed due to the devastating natural calamity, Asian Tsunami. The calamity had catastrophic consequences in three of the member countries, Sri Lanka, part of India and Maldives. People in Bangladesh were equally sympathetic with these regional countries' devastation and huge loss of life and property.
