A whole battalion of the Baluch Regiment - about 300 others and men - were taken prisoners by Tribesmen in North Waziristan a few months ago. Some three were beheaded. In over a hundred years of the Army's operations in Waziristan, there is no example of such an experience by the British, Indian or the Pakistan Armies in any theatre of operation. It is understandable that the government should try to keep the matter quiet so that its ineptitude and mishandling of the situation should not come under public scrutiny but it is surprising that a nation that takes pride in its Armed Forces and is literally starving so that they are fed and kept in a high state of preparedness, should keep quiet, forget this incident and leave these men to their fate.
