Pakistan faces the worst floods in memory, they have caused unprecedented havoc and catastrophe - 20 million people have been affected, about 1,600 have died and two million rendered homeless. Standing crops have been wiped out, damage to infrastructure alone has been staggering, with bridges, roads, barrages, dams and the irrigation system severely damaged. Pakistan faces a disaster of monumental proportions and the long-term economic and politi-cal damage is likely to be extremely costly.
