摘要

Students who are not Operations Management (OM) majors often make up a significant portion of the enrollment in introductory OM courses. This is problematic on several fronts. Often this introductory course is the students' first exposure to using decision science methodologies to address the operational challenges faced by businesses. Unfortunately, the wide range of topics covered may appear overwhelming to nonmajors who lack an interest in the class and an understanding of its relevance. Thus, at the start of the semester, a professor teaching an introductory OM class has many students who have neither an understanding of the course content nor a desire to learn the material. In the worst case, a student navigates through the course only to look back and wonder, "What exactly is OM?"
