What, No Quiz Today? An Innovative Framework for Increasing Student Preparation and Participation

摘要

The team quiz format has improved course enjoyment and participation while also providing a daily diagnostic for the instructor to assess student preparation and their mastery of the topics assigned for the day. Students perceive it as playing an interesting and fun game rather than listening to the typical lecture. Classes are more participative, enjoyable, and dynamic; students are actively involved throughout. Students work harder, knowing that they must contribute each day or run the risk of disappointing their team and the class. Moreover, quiz results allow for the instructor to address difficulties the students are having as they arise rather than wait until a formal, comprehensive assessment. It is clear that the students enjoy this format more than the traditional lecture, and that class preparation and participation have significantly improved.
