摘要

The magnetic disk-drive industry continuously strives for higher recorded data densities, which requires a focus on both increased tracks per inch (TPI) and bits per inch (BPI). For a given drive, allowable track density exhibits an inversely proportional relationship to the probability density function of write-to-read track misregistration. As a result, one way to deliver higher areal density is through the use of alternate materials in the actuator assembly, which can significantly improve resonance characteristics. Moreover, this makes it possible to increase the servo bandwidth and allow higher TPI using conventional actuator technology.
