Italy makes origin labelling compulsory for all foods

EU officials indicated that Brussels would need to study the laws closely, but gave an initial warning that the Italian decrees not only pre-empt imminent EU legislation on meat labelling, but also go beyond what the EU is considering for processed products. The Italian package requires obligatory country of origin labelling for single ingredient products, while processed items would have to label both the origin of the dominant raw ingredient, and where the last stage of processing occurred.
