The Commission names its price

The European Commission adopted price proposals for 2000/2001 in February at its weekly management meeting in Brussels. In recent years, price proposals have contained little of substance, as any major alterations to the common agricultural policy (CAP) have formed part of overall reforms - such as the MacSharry reforms of 1992 and the Agenda 2000 reforms agreed in Berlin last year. Responding to the farm price package for 2000/01, Commissioner Franz Fischler said: "We intend to continue the multi-annual approach set out in Agenda 2000 and the previous reforms. This provides farmers with a more stable framework to plan their production."
