Long life for liquid milk

Although the market for other dairy products is expanding, liquid milk has seen its fortunes rise and fall and rise again. Regular consumption of plain liquid milk is slowly dropping - UK consumption was estimated at 108.2 litres per year by the Milk Development Council for 2004, down from 122.2 litres in 1993. This drop has been alleviated somewhat with small national sales increases of 2.2 per cent seen yearly since 2004, according to market research company TNS. Another bright spot is organic milk, which saw an increase of 57.5 per cent in the UK in 2005. Another 387 million litres of long life milk were also drunk in the UK, up 1.1 per cent versus 2004.
