The absence of Tetra Pak and Elopak was a loss for the Anuga FoodTec organisers, with Hall 8rnof Koelnmesse only being partially filled with replacements. However, other smaller packaging companies said that the lack of the packaging giants resulted in more foot traffic on their stands. Indeed, other companies such as Krones, who took over entire halls at the last Anuga, also scaled back their efforts.rnBut there was more to it than mere packaging - technology for hygiene enhancement and machines associated with dairy production were also on show.rnAmongst the packaging exhibitors was Ecolean, the Swedish company that has developed an aseptic packaging bag and related equipment for dairy and other beverage applications. The bag is manufactured from 40 per cent chalk. Several variants are available, ranging from 200ml to 1 litre. The package also has the benefit of standing up, due to its air-filled handle, therebyrnensuring stability and ease of pouring. It is loaded into the Ecolean EL3, which is a filling machine with a small footprint and high efficiency, designed for the aseptic filling of low-acid food products into packages.
