Unilever has announced plans to launch an ice cream business in Romania as part of its south central European growth strategy. For the first time, some of its global icecream brands, including Magnum and Carte d'Or, will be available in the country, which has a market worth an estimated £146.5 million (€160m).rnIn a related decision, Unilever has agreed to acquire the Romanian Napoca ice cream brand for an undisclosed amount. The buy is subject to approval from the Romanian Competition Council and will be finalised within the next four months.rnOnce the purchase has been completed and approved, the product portfolio will include Cornetto, Vienetta and Big Milk, together with Napoca brands. The products will be marketed under the Algida brand, Unilever's Italian trademark.
