He's got the cop job, and now President Obama must address :he issues with which he has been entrusted - namely, sorting out the problems of Guantanamo, building bridges with the Muslim world and getting a more bipartisan approach in the US government. However, here in the dairy industry, the fear is that with the worsening of the financial climate, President Obama may be tempted to curry favour with the domestic suppliers of dairy and raise tariffs in the US. That would be disastrous for all concerned. However, he has so far appeared to display a calm demeanour in times of trouble. So let's hope for the global dairy industry's sake it was not just a pre-election pose. Worse still,though, would be an EU decision to shut up shop and pull in its horns with tariffs and restrictions. The economic crisis is a problem but it is not without end. EU ministers must remember that economics is a cyclical process - what goes up must come down, and will eventually go back up again.
