Swiss dairy giant Emmi has signed a purchase agreement for Rachelli, a company based in Pero Milano, Italy. Rachelli manufactures and markets speciality desserts, which are sold in more than a dozen countries. This acquisition will allow Emmi to reinforce its position as a leader in the European market for Italian speciality desserts, the company says. Urs Riedener, CEO of Emmi, comments, "Rachelli has an excellent reputation as a manufacturer of high-quality Italian desserts and is an excel lent fit with Emmi." The company, which was founded in 1935 by Ermene-gildo Rachelli, began its success story in the ice cream business, before branching out into frozen dessert specialities. Since the 1970s, Rachelli has also been manufacturing chilled products.
