In a year that has seen a fair amount of tumult on international markets and various countries, there are a few constants, according to the participants of the IDF World Dairy Summit in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. "The global dairy sector has a very good story to tell," said Dr Jan Martin Vrij, the chair of the Dutch organising committee. "Here in the Netherlands we are very aware that we can only play the role of sustainability in agreement with local stakeholders." Roelof Joosten, president of NZO, the Dutch dairy organisation and chairman of FrieslandCampina, concurred. "Around 45 per cent of Dutch milk production is exported, and 20 per cent of that is outside the EU. Rotterdam is the doorstep to the world's dairy market."
