A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Compliance

Regulation and compliance issues are nothing new to American business. Roughly three decades ago, a largely industrial US economy dreaded the coming passage of new worker safety legislation and the creation of a new oversight agency, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Dire predictions of lost productivity and significant costs due to compliance efforts concerned many businesses. A funny thing happened, however, on the way to OSHA compliance: companies also noticed less lost work due to injuries and fewer workers' compensation losses.
