Life and miracles of bank: Stories and metaphors in-between narrated worlds and acts of narrating

摘要

This paper discusses the use of metaphors and stories by organizational and management researchers and provides examples from research on the internationalization of a bank. I will show the limits of the coupling of metaphors and stories, by highlighting the tension present in research between structure and closure of stabilized forms of determinacy produced and the always open and contingent life story in which both organizational members and researchers find themselves. A return to language is proposed where narrative research could embrace greater proximity with the life world and its inherent in-betweenness, that is to say, an intermediate space where exchanges between narrated words and acts of narration never cease to be renewed.
