Complexation of Iron(Ⅲ) by Cystinedihydroxamic Acid

In acidic and neutral solutions, cystinedihydroxamic acid (H_2L~2+) binds ferric ion forming monomeric and dimeric complexes of 1:1, 2:2 and 2:3 metal to ligand stoichiometry. Comparison of the ob- tained equilibrium and spectral data for mono(cystinedihydroxa- mato)iron(Ⅲ) with those of other hydroxamatoiron(Ⅲ) complexes suggests the same mode of coordination. The Fe_2L_3 complex has been isolated and characterized by elemental analysis and IR spec- tra.
