Classics Alive—The 6L6 Lives On!

Unbelievable but true! The little wood-framed 6L6 transmitter we featured in last year's (October 2004) "Homebrew Classics" column proved to be so popular that notes of encouragement and support blew our mailbox apart! Apparently, more of today's "old pros" than ever imagined started out with some type of 6L6 transmitter and are now intent on recapturing the romance with a second and more meticulously built version. That makes sense to us, as one-tubers are easy to assemble and a blast of fun to use on the air today with a similar era receiver. Yes, and some of the resultant rigs with their beautifully shaped tubes and glazed wood bases are true works of electronic art. We are sure you will enjoy studying these transmitters as much as their proud owners enjoy showing them. This month's column thus revisits the ever-popular 6L6 rig plus takes quick peeks at another all-time favorite, the legendary TNT transmitter.
