But for those with a suitable space, the rewards can be significant, both in reducing your personal energy costs, and generating a second income by selling surplus electricity to the grid. Dave Allen and Linda Riley, owners of a six-acre smallholding in Yorkshire, were just the sort of couple for whom wind energy was a no-brainer. Aside from their five alpacas and two cows, their small fields are swept by a constant source of wind that seemed an attractive alternative to being at the mercy of the energy companies.
