摘要

As the United States moves toward a presidential election with the choices boiling down to white men in their 70s, the perennial issue of diversity at the top of organizations is under discussion. To be fair, modest progress has been attained, although at times it seems otherwise. Last year, for the first time ever, all-male boards in the S&P 500 disappeared.1 This landmark does not mean women are in the same number as men sitting on boards, as they account for only 27 percent of the S&P board seats.2 Still, that's nearly a 17 percent increase from eight years ago. With regard to the number of women CEOs, the tally also indicates an upward trend. Again, the numbers aren't much to crow about: Of the 500 largest companies in the country, women are CEOs in 6 percent of them.
