Nachwuchsfoerderung fuer den Einsatz in der Entwicklungszusammenarbeit Programme der GTZ

The GTZ in the Federal Republic of Germany is a state-owned company providing professional services to perform projects and programs of bilateral technical cooperation (TC). In order to do an efficient and effective job in the head office and abroad ― in staff training, project planning and management, in strengthening manpower and institutions ―, its experts have to be very qualified and must have some years of professional experience. GTZ uses a program of personal development and training for young professionals who are willing to choose a career in the field of international development cooperation. There are two Probabitioner Programs for contracts of three months duration either in the head office (internal) or in projects in the partner countries (abroad) for students having completed their basicstudies, offered by GTZ as a phase of orientation. The core program for young professionals younger than 32 years of age after their university graduation and at least a few years of professional expertise, is the Project Assistant Program (PA-Program). They go through a densely packed trainee program of two years duration abroad. This GTZ program may be considered as a success story after meanwhile more than 30 years of evaluation: The vast majority of its participants found their way into longterm contracts with GTZ or other international organisations which are working in the field of development cooperation.
