Increased UK IP crime funding

The UK Government has announced that it is providing ,￡5million in funding this year and almost ,￡8million next year to tackle IP crime. The announcement was made in January by Lord Triesman, who was Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for IP and Quality, at the launch of the Intellectual Property Crime Report 2007. The funding increase accompanies the recent extension of Trading Standards powers to tackle copyright, counterfeiting and piracy. The report provides an overview of IP crime in 2007 gathered from a number of contributors including the Alliance Against IP Theft, Brand Enforcement UK, the Federation Against Software Theft, the Metropolitan Police, Microsoft Limited and many others.
