This paper deals with a class of hybrid dynamical systems which may operate in multiple phases executed in parallel or in sequence. Within each phase the process dynamic is continuous. Two different methods of designing a control system which minimizes the overall operating time used in driving the process from a default mode to one of the nominal modes, respecting the constraints on the continuous variables, are presented. The first is based on minimization of a criterion under constraints. The other is based on Pontryagin's maximum principle extended to discrete event controlled hybrid dynamical systems. Both are illustrated on a product supply process.
