James Clay Moltz, associate professor at the Naval Postgraduate School, details in this book the history of competition and cooperation in space. Moltz affirms space provides innumerable benefits to the United States, militarily and economically, but is also its 'Achilles heel'. Defending satellites has become an increasing concern; thus, defences are needed and space weapons have been considered for this role. Yet the eventual deployment of weapons in space clashes with the vision of space as a sanctuary. This is an important debate for future American national security interests, and Moltz's contribution offers a rich history of its evolution, and insights into possible solutions.
