The lack of unanimous legal definitions clouds disputes over completion, no matter the form of contract used One particularly fertile area for disputes under construction contracts is completions. There will always be circumstances in which the employer refuses a completion certificate because they believe that the contractor did not achieve the degree of perfection expected. So how do the standard forms of contract attempt the difficult task of defining the standard and degree of completion that an employer should expect? The JCT contracts, with one notable exception, adopt the minimalist approach of simply requiring the work to have reached "practical" completion.
