Hexham Flood Alleviation Scheme, Northumberland Between 1993 and 2000, Hexham endured five major floods. To protect the town a concept was developed by Jacobs, with early involvement by Volker Stevin to provide a sustainable flood defence. The £8 million scheme's main elements included four trash screens, 500 m of diversion pipe and culvert, 450 m of improved, regarded open channel, and a new outfall on the River Tyne.
