The UK Green Building Council has called for standards on sustainability to be as rigorous for all buildings as they are for new homes. The code for sustainable homes ranks buildings according to their carbon efficiency, with code level 6 meaning zero carbon. The council, through a panel of experts, has drawn up plans to extend that to all buildings, not just new homes, and called for 'building MOTs' to assess existing building stock. The UKGBC released a report calling for the Government to "own" the new code, working collaboratively with the industry. Chief executive Paul King said: "The Code for Sustainable Buildings should establish one clear policy and regulatory trajectory towards a sustainable built environment, to show where we need to get to, by when.
