The government has proposed to "wind down" the role of the Code for Sustainable Homes as part of its Housing Standards Review consultation. Under the review, more than 100 housing standards would be reduced to fewer than 10. The government said it would put in place "transitional arrangements" to ensure that contractual commitments under the code could be properly covered. It pointed to Building Regulations as having surpassed the lower levels of the code and that it had done its job in terms of "pointing the way forward". Carbon and energy targets would be set in Building Regulations as the industry moves towards zero-carbon homes in 2016, under the proposals.
