Balfour Beatty subsidiary Stent has completed the six-month piling contract on the 310 m skyscraper Shard of Glass project in London for main contractor Mace.rnThe ground engineering specialist's 40-strong team used its fleet of rotary bored piling rigs to construct 379 piles in the firm secant wall around the perimeter of the site.rnA further 129 piles were constructed within the basement itself, 68 of which contained plunged columns, each capable of carrying a maximum load of up to 24,000kN.
