The construction industry is built on commercial relationships in a small world with paths that frequently cross. In tough economic periods good relationships are very important and amicable solutions to disputes are vital for future business. When disputes arise the relationships can be tested to breaking point. If the disputing parties find themselves embroiled in adjudication, arbitration or litigation, the chance that the relationship will continue is very unlikely. Mediation encourages parties to look for mutual solutions by attempting to discover mutual interests.
