'Prove carbon reduction' to win work with top clients

The UK's biggest infrastructure clients are being encouraged not to allocate work to contractors unless they "demonstrate a commitment to reducing carbon" in a new strategy backed by the Treasury. Major infrastructure clients including EDF Energy, the Highways Agency, National Grid and Network Rail have backed the Infrastructure Carbon Review, which seeks to alter the way contracts are procured to reduce carbon by as much as 24m tonnes and save £1.46bn a year by 2050.
