Sweett Group has said it expects to be prosecuted by the Serious Fraud Office after admitting to a bribery offence. The admission draws a line under a two-year SFO probe into Sweett's appointment on two Middle East contracts between 2009 and 2011. The consultant will close its Middle East operation as it "reviews its options" in the region and undergoes a group-wide reorganisation. In a business update last week, Sweett said it had made "substantial progress" in reorganising the company. Sweett Group chief executive Douglas McCormick said the "announcement brings closure on the Middle East legacy issues a step closer, allowing the group to progress unencumbered in the future". "This is an important next step in the strategic turnaround of the business," he added. The company said prosecution was expected and a fine "likely", although it added that the extent of any fine was still unknown.
