A buoyant and productive industry with a busy work pipeline that generates decent margins. Now that we have taken the big step of bringing the contracting supply chain under one roof, we have the opportunity to capitalise on this and really start making a difference. So I hope it is the year where the industry decides it really does want to change for the better and works together to address the issues that are holding back our businesses. 1) I think we will see genuine collaboration throughout the supply chain, not just on individual projects, but collectively as an industry. 2) I believe there will be a broad acknowledgement that our financial business models need to change so construction is profitable without relying on withholding other people's money. Everyone recognises the need for change - and I believe the majority are ready to do just that. 3) So far we seem to have been slow to embrace new technologies that could drive down costs and increase efficiency. If nothing else then widespread use of the smart technology such as that in CSCS cards would demonstrate the potential to develop smarter ways of working.
