Many of the problems facing contractors and clients come down to one thing: a shortage of skilled staff. For the second year in a row, annual industry performance data reveals that fewer than half -40 per cent - of UK construction projects are being completed on time (see pages 2-3 and 28-32). It's a sobering proportion - and, depressingly, even lower than last year, when 45 per cent of projects were completed on time. The skills shortage is certainly a factor. The annual data, compiled by construction intelligence provider Glenigan along with the CITB, Constructing Excellence and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, is provided by the industry for the industry. It is expressly for benchmarking and enabling contractors to improve their performance.
