Highways England is on the hunt for a new contractor to take over from Amey on two major roads maintenance contracts in East England totalling £400m. Amey will be replaced on Area 6 (covering East Anglia) and Area 8 (covering Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and parts of Suffolk) next March two years earlier than expected. Amey's contracts will end in March 2017. They were due to each be worth £200m over five years. Highways England told Construction News it will now appoint a contractor to finish the remainder of the contract in the next four to six weeks.
